This week marked our second trip of the season with Momentum Alliance. We were blessed with clear blue skies and some beautiful Oregon sunshine. Winter finally returned to the northwest as Mt. Hood received several inches of new snow over the previous 48 hours and temperatures dropped below freezing for what felt like the first time in forever.
Scissor Sisters, Haul & Oates, and Crystal Fighters were the musical highlights in Van #1 on the drive up. Upon arrival at Timberline, we were greeted with some blustery mountain wind (30-40mph according to NOAA). This added to the sense of adventure and excitement for the kids as their first trip of the season had been filled with mellow spring slush and warm temperatures.
The snow ended up being pretty rock hard but the kids rallied and didn’t let that intimidate them. Most had established a strong foundation of the fundamentals on their first trip, two weeks prior. So, a lot of the hard tumbles were able to be avoided this weekend.
This group has been one of the smoothest that I can remember working with. The kids really listened well, put in great effort, and stayed committed all the way up until 3:30pm. Consistent J turns and straight glides were happening all over the place.
Special shoutout to our fearless captain, Spencer Fransway, for his leadership and commitment to Snowdays over the last decade. This weekend marked his final Snowdays trip as he and his wife, Ali, prepare to move to Los Angeles in a couple weeks. We have been so fortunate for all that Spencer has provided over the years. This organization really would not have existed without his presence. We wish all the best to our president and shred captain.
