Trip 10: Upward Bound – IRCO

Saturday, April 26th was the 10th and final trip of the 2013-2014 season for the Snowdays Foundation.  We had the privilege to snowboard with 15 awesome high school students from the Immigrant Refuge Community Organization – Upward Bound program.

Due to a declining snowpack our trip led us Timberline lodge. With a late and off season snowstorm, we practically had the mountain (aka: Bruno Chairlift) to ourselves with perfect snow conditions.  The Snowdays Foundation, and our coaches for the trip Spencer F., Eddie B., Ethan F., Shane B., Andy W., and Afrita D., were all really impressed with the determination the group displayed in their efforts to pick up snowboarding.

Precisely every one of the students had such a positive attitude about their learning experience in snowboarding. Literally everyone exhibited one-hundred percent of their energy and concentration to pick up as much as they could. Exactly no one quit the day until it was time to pack up and go home.  The group participation was outstanding and their efforts were easily identified with huge smiles! We had well over half the group making laps on Bruno and making turns down the slope.

Finishing the season on such a high note for student participation was super encouraging, reminding us why we put in efforts to run our program. For these students on this trip, snowboarding was the outlet expressing their everyday confidence in overcoming new challenges.
