Trip 1: Centennial

Our first trip of the year brought many first-time snowboarders from Centennial Middle School up to Mt. Hood. Students set a motivated pace early that continued the entire day. Some showed up as much as half an hour early to our scheduled pickup.

It’s always fun to listen to the chatter on the way up the mountain for the first time snowboarding.

“I hate when the road is so close to a cliff you can look right over the edge”

“Whoa, look at the size of that icicle!”

The students were also instructed in the respectful observance of Silent Rock. Important information for anyone headed into Mt. Hood territory.

Clear roads and nice weather had us up the mountain in no time. The expert staff at Summit Ski Area had all of our rental gear ready even faster (we called ahead). The CMS crew was so motivated to learn and ride that we stayed ahead of schedule all day and got plenty of extra time on hill. Many of the students progressed far enough to ride the chairlift right after lunch and continued to lap the chair until last call. Everyone showed great persistence and made tremendous progress. We’re looking forward to seeing Centennial again soon.
